airbag light comes on and off intermittently I am aware there were some problems with the airbag sensor that year and recalls for other models, not my vin, I have called and confirmed there are none for mine. seems to act up more after or while I have a passenger so I suspect (almost positive) this is for the passenger airbag. also when I have a passenger the amber indicator that says airbag on of
... f will randomly switch to off and I'll get the dash light. this makes me think its the airbag weight sensor pad that deteriorates easily that other cars had a recall for but not mine. no water was spilled on the seat before it started acting up the way it has been. as well, the engine motor mounts have a tendency to break fairly easily and fast causing vibrations and possible safety issues.Read more

The passenger occupancy seat sensor is defective (as reported by many other owners of this vehicle model). The sensor is very costly to replace in terms of parts ($1,500) and labor ($1,500) and MINI does not sell the sensor separately as it is embedded in the seat foam. The defective sensor does not recognize a passenger sitting in the passenger seat and deactivates the passenger airbag which is
... an essential, lifesaving device fitted to a small vehicle. When involved in a major vehicle collision, without a working airbag, the risk of fatality drastically increases. The sensor is also responsible for NOT deploying the airbag if a passenger under 100lbs is sitting in the seat ie. a child. Again, this is a massive safety concern especially due to other owners resorting to a cheap aftermarket bypass module which will always deploy the airbag. This solution could seriously injure or cause fatalities for passengers under 100lbs. Other MINI models with the same electronic occupancy sensor problems have had recalls issued by the NHTSA and has not issued recalls for vehicles with the same issue consistently. It is the NHTSA's responsibility to hold the manufacturer accountable for ALL vehicle models with similar defects impacting the safe and consistent operation of life preservation devices such as airbags especially when repair costs for these defective devices are cost prohibitive for vehicle owners to replace.Read more

I was driving my Jeep on Sunday, [XXX] and the service airbag system light kept coming on periodically. When I took it to Szott dealership Service center in White Lake, Michigan. I store my jeep in a garage. I have not been in an accident or in a flood...so why am I liable when it is a defective part or wiring? There's problem with the wiring harness under the drivers seat, causing a fault in the airbag sensor, and the airbag warning light to illuminate. If you look online, many owners are having this same isssue. I have had this Airbag warning light illuminating off and on my 2018 Range Rover for over 6 months now. I had the same problem with my wife's 2015 Range Rover Sport (Vin [XXX] ). Unfortunately, I didn't know the work around and the Range Rover Dealership charge me $1500 for a new wiring harness. The Danger is the vehicle's airbag may not work in the event of a head on collision. Range Rover should be forced to inspect/replace all airbag wiring harnesses under the drivers seat. (1). Electrical wire related to passenger airbag function is allowed for rodent chewing. I was told by technician that if this wire chewed by rodent or broken, passenger air bag will not function at all when there is an impact or an accident. I'm not really sure whether the driver will be even alerted whenever this wire is broken. This is simply a design fault because such an important wire should
... not be placed in a vulnerable location where rodent can chew it. I have never come across this in any car in my life so far. (2). If an airbag does not function, a passenger could get hurt or die (3). I asked the service team about the design fault and filled their service visit survey as well, but no one answered me so far. (4). Service technicians inspected the broken electrical wire, repaired it, but there is no guarantee that rodent can not chew it again because repaired wire is at the same place as before. (5). There is no prior warning for me. Service technicians came over to replace the passenger seat. Once they replaced it, the senior technician tried to check all the system using his laptop and it appeared that he noticed a fault on his laptop screen. So, he opened the frunk and found the broken wire. (6). Instead of replacing this part with OEM part he repaired it and even charged me for the cost of repair though my car is under warranty. This is the design fault and this wire can be chewed again and manufacture can keep charging the customers till the life of the car.Read more

It appears that the dealer has disabled my passenger side air bag system. The car is available for inspection. The safety of any front passenger is at risk as the system has been disabled by the dealer after a 'vehicle check' that occurred during routine maintenance. The problem (airbag system disabled) has been confirmed by the same BMW dealer that performed the service. The vehicle has not had a
... dditional inspections. Prior to this problem, an alert/message would indicate the passenger would need to buckle up. Never was a passenger in the seat, I would move the groceries, backpack, water bottle, etc to the floor and message would dismiss itself. This message to buckle up has been appearing since the car was purchased as a certified BMW from a BMW dealer. Recently, I took my car into the BMW dealer that I typically go for scheduled, routine maintenance. The maintenance consisted of an oil change, oil filter change, air filter change, and vehicle check. When I started the car after picking it up, a chime sounded and a warning message was displayed that says "Passenger restraint system malfunction: Contact BMW Carefully drive to the closest service center. Passenger restraint system is limited. Increased risk of injury in case of a collision. Continue wearing safety belt." Additionally, a red air bad light is displayed on the dash board instrument cluster. Every time the car is started the chime sounds and these message is displayed. Dealer is requesting 2,000-2,500 to replace a part - meanwhile system was dealer disabled. Please note this issue has occurred in the past with BMW SRS systems, and a recall resolved the issue.Read more

Within the first week of ownership (delivery on 1/15/24), the car's parking and/or front collision sensors started malfunctioning on a regular basis. The sensors repeatedly gave off false alerts when the car would approach intersections even though no obstacles were in front of, or behind, the car. The false alerts were quite startling and they consisted of loud alarms and warning images in both
... the driver's display and the car's heads up display. The repeated false alarms posed a significant safety hazard because they initially caused me to slam on the brakes risking a rear end collision. Once I realized the sensors were malfunctioning, I started to ignore them which is equally dangerous if a real collision needed to be averted. The car is currently in the service department, and it has been there for a total of 29 days thus far. It was initially thought that a software update would resolve the problem, but that did not work. After the software update was completed, a new "parktronic" module was installed. That also did not solve the issue. I am now being advised that the car is issuing fault codes related to the airbag system. It seems that there are some serious electrical problems that are plaguing the vehicle. The service department has advised me that they have no clear date on when this issue will be resolved.Read more
