I recently purchased a 2009 mini cooper clubman. Within three weeks of taking possession of the car, the airbag warning light activated. Upon a diagnostic test, it was determined that the passenger occupancy sensor was malfunctioning. After discussing this with the mini cooper dealer in my area and mini USA, it was acknowledged that this was a well known and documented issue. First generation
... mini coopers were afforded a safety recall to rectify this safety issue while second generation cars were given an extended warranty. Unfortunately, I am now driving a car outside of the extended warranty that was only offered to the original owner with a faulty airbag system for any passenger in my car. A recall MUST be issued for the second generation mini cooper to hold the company responsible for this faulty design. Owners of these cars are avoiding the $2500 repair bill by installing sensor bypass modules in order to clear the malfunctioning light warning. NHSTA is well aware of this problem as I have read hundreds of issues and concerns in mini cooper forums. Please address this problem as force the recall on the occupancy airbag sensor before a passenger is seriously injured or killed.Read more

This fix takes 30 minutes and they charge over $800 to repair. This seatbelt is original to the vehicle and if it's malfunctioning, this is a safety issue that should be addressed and covered for replacement or reimbursement if repairs have already been made. Some have noted that the shape of the seatbelt connector connection is causing this issue. Please keep me informed of progress with this. We will be paying $800 to fix this issue.Read more

This defect was confirmed on 05/07/24 by Infiniti of Melbourne Florida through an authorized technician. While I am the original owner of the vehicle, Infiniti
... stated they will not provide any financial assistance to rectify the issue because the vehicle is outside of the manufacturers warranty, while acknowledging that there have been numerous customer complaints related to this problem and that Infiniti has been aware of defective SRS parts effecting a critical safety device that renders the air bag system inoperable. Moreover, to repair such a deficiency, based on Infiniti’s design, the entire seat must be replaced costing over $8K, an exorbitant and onerous amount, often more than 50% of the vehicles value. This excessive financial charge has deliberately burdened Infiniti owners with a safety related component. For several years this issue has been recurrently discussed on multiple public forums and yet Infiniti has intentionally decided not to remedy this safety issue or provide any assistance or consideration to its customers. I’ve attached an Infiniti forum link (one of dozens) proving that Infiniti has known about this problem going back over a decade and failed to take any action and instead prolonged a predatory pricing scheme that is harming owners. [XXX] ) As a result of Infiniti’s complete intransigence on a safety related matter, the National Hwy. Traffic Safety Admin. (NHTSA), should compel Infiniti to remedy this situation. It’s hoped that Infiniti will take immediate action to correct this situation and not abandon its owners in an untenable, unsafe and unjustifiable predicament.
